SONOMA COMMUNITY CENTER

July 2020 (Dates TBD)

I'll be doing a Two Day Beginning to Intermediate oil painting workshop. We'll be painting from still life set ups beginning with black and white paint then moving on to color using a limited palette of three colors and white.

We'll do small exercises over the two days working small and concentrating on DRAWING then VALUE then COLOR - the stages of a painting.

I'll focus on what I think is the most important part of a good painting, VALUES or the relationship of lights to darks. More than color, value is probably the single most important element of a great painting and it's the easiest to fix. I know it's hard to believe but if you're having problems with color it's usually a design or a value issue not a color problem. True fact!

PAINTING WITH WATER MIXABLE OILS!

Mendocino Art Center, August 29, 30, 2020

I'll be doing a Two Day Beginning to Intermediate oil painting workshop using water mixable oil paints. We'll be painting from still life set ups and I'll demo every exercise.

We'll do small exercises over the two days working small and concentrating on DRAWING then VALUE then COLOR - the three stages of a painting.

I'll focus on COMPOSITION and VALUE. First, what is your painting about, where do you want the viewer to look and secondly VALUE - the relationship of lights and darks. These are the two most important steps of your painting.

If you're having problems with color it's usually a value or drawing issue not a color problem. True fact!
