While I was painting the series of Panama Canal expansion paintings I had a chance to do a partial transit of a ship through the Panama Canal with my good friend and pilot, Mark Goodrich. We started on the Pacific side anchorage at 2:30AM and disembarked midway at Paraiso around mid morning. Another in a series of paintings I'll be doing for a show next year in Panama at the Museo Del Canal.

A little sepia study of a ship at Cocoli Locks
In August 1914 the first trial crossing of the isthmus took place led by this Tug. The news of the opening of the canal was overshadowed by the beginning of World War I.
