Small study of Spaniards working on the Panama Canal Construction. Painted from a black-and-white image.

16” x 20” I painted this from an AI Image of The Culebra Cut. I was unable to find scenes of the canal at this time of day. The source materials included my own Night Canal paintings.

24" x 48" A post Panamax ship about to leave the last chamber of the locks and enter Gate lake, the Panama Canal.

30" x 40". A ship exits Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal headed into the Pacific.

While I was painting the series of Panama Canal expansion paintings I had a chance to do a partial transit of a ship through the Panama Canal with my good friend and pilot, Mark Goodrich. We started on the Pacific side anchorage at 2:30AM and disembarked midway at Paraiso around mid morning.

16” x 20” Miraflores Locks, late in the day. From a photo I took while painting on site.

30" x 40" I painted this from a black-and-white photograph provided by the Panama Canal company, Autoridad del Canal. This is one of the locomotives in for maintenance that hauled material during the construction of the Panama Canal (1904-1914).
